FAQ
1. What is the difference between mineral makeup and the makeup I usually buy in stores?
Designer and store brand cosmetics usually contain fillers, artificial colors, fragrance, preservative and other chemicals. Some of these ingredients are toxic and cancer causing and come just irritate your skin. Just take a look at the ingredients list of any liquid foundation and compare this to our ingredients list. TLC mineral makeup contains much less ingredients and no irritating or cancer causing chemicals.
2. The ingredients in your products still sound 'alien' to me, what do they do?
Here is a list of the ingredients used in our products and their functions.
Titanium Dioxide: A naturally occurring mineral from the earth's surface. Provides long-lasting coverage for mineral makeup foundation and provides a natural, broad spectrum UV protection. Anti- inflammatory properties and may actually calm skin and prevent breakouts.
Zinc Oxide: Anti-inflammatory with antimicrobial properties. Provides UV protection.
Mica: An almost colorless, transparent mineral that occurs naturally in the earth's surface and is mined from all parts of the world, purified and crushed into fine powders which are used in formulating mineral makeup. An age-old cosmetic dating back to ancient Egypt.
Iron Oxides: These minerals add color to cosmetics and mineral makeup. By water-processing, these natural salts are oxidized.
Serecite: A fluffy translucent mica that may be used alone as a primer or setting powder and offers a silky texture to foundations and finalizers. Often used in mineral makeup formulas.
Ferric ferrocyanide: An organic pigment that provides blue tones to natural mineral pigments.
Kaolin Clay: A pure cosmetic powder that absorbs moisture, helps keeps down shine, provides an opaque, white base for colors, and assists with adherence to skin. Kaolin Clay is odorless, has a smooth texture and is often used in mineral makeup matte foundation formulas.
Rice Powder: A highly absorbent product derived from ground rice. Absorbs both moisture and oils. Leaves a soft, silky feeling when added to mineral makeup powders.
Mother of Pearl: Also know as Calcium Carbonate. Is used as a whitener, oil absorber and filler, this fine white powder occurs naturally in marble, limestone, and oyster shells. Uses include pigment and pigment extender in cosmetics, mineral makeup and as whitener in toothpastes.
3. How can you sell your products at such low prices?
Unlike larger companies that hire hundreds of staff and spend thousands on advertising, we are a small company and do everything ourselves. By keeping our costs and advertising to a minimum, we can pass the savings on to you.
4. Mineral makeup uses different application techniques. Is it difficult to learn?
The application of mineral makeup powders is different from applying heavy liquid foundations - But what you'll be pleased to find is that it is quicker and allows for greater control. It is virtually mistake proof! And if you want to increase your coverage just add an extra light dusting of powder until you have achieved the desired look. Perfect for women on the go, or those of us who just want to look flawless fast!
5. Does mineral makeup provide sun protection?
We cannot claim an SPF value but the addition of titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide as an ingredient in mineral makeup means that it does provide some sun protection. However, we do recommend that you still use a sunblock under your makeup for extra protection.
6. Who can wear mineral makeup?
Anyone! Mineral makeup will suit any skin type in any weather condition. Foundation comes in different formulas to suit all skin types and finishing powders will help keep oiliness at bay.
7. Mineral makeup looks just like loose powder, will it cover my imperfections and last all day?
Yes! Coverage can be built up and you will get great coverage without feeling like you have a mask on. When you first start wearing mineral makeup you will find yourself checking the mirror throughout the day. That is because you won’t believe you look so naturally flawless and feel like you have nothing on. Even if you perspire or go swimming, you will still find yourself looking flawless at the end of the day. Just “blot” your face rather than “wipe” it.
8. Is using more product able to give me a better effect?
No. Less is more in this case. Especially for foundation, it is easier to start with less and build up coverage than to put on more then try to take it off. Also, building up coverage slowly will help you acheive a more natural look. For products such as pure pearl and pure silk. it is a common misconception that more is better and will produce results more quickly. However, this is not true. Consistent use of small amounts is better than a single use of a large amount.
9. What brushes should I use to apply mineral makeup?
We recommend that you use a kabuki brush to apply your foundation. This is because it is dense enough to “grab” onto your powder and deposit it evenly on your skin so you look naturally flawless.
